New radio ad follows Theresa’s call for fossil fuel lobbyist Andrew Wheeler – whom Ernst voted to confirm – to resign from EPA leadership
Today, businesswoman Theresa Greenfield’s U.S. Senate campaign released its first radio ad as part of an aggressive statewide media buy, calling out Senator Joni Ernst’s failure to fight for Iowa’s farmers in Washington.
The new ad comes just days after Theresa called for the resignation of EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler – a former fossil fuel lobbyist whom Senator Ernst voted to confirm to lead the EPA despite “explicit promises” to continue granting renewable fuel standard waivers to oil refiners at the expense of Iowa farmers and biofuel producers – following reports that the EPA is considering more than fifty additional RFS waivers as Iowa’s farm economy faces “truly awful” hardships. After taking massive amounts of campaign cash from Big Oil, Ernst is standing by her vote for Wheeler and refusing to join Theresa’s call for new leadership at the EPA that puts Iowa first.
“When Iowa’s farmers needed her most, Senator Ernst sided with her Big Oil donors and voted to install a fossil fuel lobbyist to run the EPA who went right to work devastating our ethanol industry,” said Greenfield for Iowa spokesperson Izzi Levy. “Unlike Senator Ernst, who’s taken millions from corporate PACs and Big Oil and put them ahead of Iowa’s family farmers, Theresa isn’t taking one dime from corporate PACs. She’ll stand up to the corporate special interests, hold leaders in Washington accountable, and she’ll never stop fighting for Iowa’s family farmers.”
Hi. I’m Theresa Greenfield and I want to tell you about my friend Jerry.
Like me, farming’s been an important part of his life.
Now, he’s a corn producer.
Jerry doesn’t have his own lobbyist, or millions of dollars to spend on campaign contributions.
But he knows a thing or two about manure.
Senator Ernst said she’d be a friend to Iowa farmers – like Jerry.
And that she’d make Washington squeal.
Well, it turns out that’s just hogwash.
Senator Ernst took millions from corporate PACs and Big Oil, and let the special interests feast away.
Putting one of their own – a fossil fuel lobbyist – in charge of the EPA.
And he’s devastated our ethanol industry.
I’m Theresa Greenfield, and I don’t take a dime of corporate PAC money.
Because I’ll be a senator who puts Iowa first.
And I’ll never forget who I’m fighting for.
In addition to postponing in-person events, the Greenfield for Iowa campaign is taking precautions by having all staff work remotely and encouraging social distancing practices at all times.
